Electrics - FAQs

If you have power failure, first check with your neighbours and look at street lighting to see if the whole area has a power cut. If not, check your home to see where the problem may lie and check for any fuses blown. You can check your consumer unit to see if the circuit breakers are in the ‘up’ position. If the circuit breaker trips this is a sign that there is a problem.

If the circuit breaker has tripped ‘down’, check for damage. If it is not damaged, reset it. If it trips again once reset, unplug or turn off all appliances and then reset the circuit breaker.

If it trips again, you may have a short circuit and you will need to seek professional help. If it does not trip again, test all your appliances individually until you locate the one that
is faulty. You will then need to contact the manufacturer if you believe the appliance to
be faulty.

The fuse box/consumer unit is usually located on the wall in the ground floor cupboard or downstairs toilet.

Your home comes with pre-installed TV points to main rooms. We don’t fit TV aerials because of the many different options available to homeowners from cable to satellite. The aerial sockets are usually located in the electric cupboard. You will need to contact an aerial technician to connect up your aerial after move-in day.

There are often restrictions on where you can or can’t install a TV aerial or satellite dish. Normally it is acceptable to put these up on the side or roof of your property, but not on the front of the property. It is best to consult your Contract for more details on restrictive covenants.

If your extractor fan isn’t working, it is best to first check that the isolator switch is on. This switch will normally be located outside of the room above the door. Please also check the light is working as sometimes extractor fans are linked to the light switch.

If your home is fitted with an indoor heat pump and heat exchange, such as a KERS-MEV, this will act as the mechanical ventilation in your home. Please check this is turned on and no error codes are showing. If the extraction is still not working, please contact the customer care team.
